What is SiteCast or Studcast Concrete Panel Building System?

Studcast concrete as defined in Wikipedia is also called "pre-framed concrete" or a composite panels system that combines relatively thin concrete layers with cold formed steel framing to create hybrid panels; the result is a panelized system usable for cladding, curtain walls, shaft walls, and load-bearing exterior and interior walls. Studcast panels install in the same manner as prefabricated steel stud panels or conventional pre-cast concrete panels except they are thinner, lighter and allow utilities to be installed within the panel. The technology is applicable for both factory prefabrication and site-cast (tilt-up) wall construction on almost all types of buildings, including multifamily housing, schools, industrial, commercial and institutional structures. Studcast has both architectural and structural applications. It has been used in hospitality design, military construction, retail, and residential design. Metro Group of companies has partnered with California USA based Vendor Partners to bring an exclusive Site Cast Composite Panels that can be built as a load bearing structure of up to Stilt plus 12 storey structure reducing the need for steel and concrete to nearly half of the conventional RCC framed structures. METRO-PANELS is primarily a StudCast system which comprise several components:

  1. Automatic Metal stud design and building structure design by a system integral computer software program that feeds information to a roll steel forming machine. This proprietary building design CAD software we use and provide as a technology know-how service is branded as METRO-CAD.
  2. The roll forming machine than automatically fabricate the studs with all punches, screw holes and numbering system to a basic skilled person and assemble the framing,
  3. The studs frame assemble receive the steel reinforcement and additional accessories that are designed by the Metro Groups in-house structural engineers so a form can be prepared for Site Casting the frame into a M40 grade Concrete
  4. The concrete is cast and upon setting for 2 days it is removed and left to cure for 7 days. As the metal frame is primarily designed to bear all loads, the entire structure is now ready for the walls to be place on a raft foundation typical for low rise construction or deep footed plinth beams typical for mid-rise buildings.

What is Tilt-up Construction?

In a tilt-up construction project, the building's walls are poured directly at the jobsite in large slabs of concrete called "tilt-up panels" or "tiltwall panels". These panels are then raised into position around the building's perimeter forming the exterior walls. Tilt-up construction allows general contractors to build a wide range of buildings more quickly and with lower construction costs than what is typical for traditional RCC framed construction projects with brick masonry infill for exterior wall enclosure. This technology however requires the panel to be 7"-10" (175-250mm thick) requiring specialized heavy duty cranes to lift panels and the panels can be cumbersome to handle. In the METRO-PANELS method of tilt-wall / tilt-up panel system – the concrete thickness is only 65mm (2.5 inches) which makes the panel lighter to handle with a standard crane

What is Light Gauge Steel (LGS) Framed Panel?

LGS construction system can be classified under two board categories:

  1. Modular Construction: Modular consists of actually pre-fabricating the walls and floor components into sections, usually in the factory under controlled conditions. The modules are built in sections with doors and windows openings already built into the wall panels. The finished modules are than put on to a trailer and transported to site. The major benefit of this method is the speed of erection as the modules are simply 'craned' into place on site as the wall panels are already pre-assembled.
  2. On Site Construction: Coiled Steel is rolled through a forming machine to form a framing member called a metal stud which is pre-cut and pre-drilled and assembled with several such members on site.

METRO-PANELS LGS framing system uses rolled steeled LGS framing structure as it is extremely convenient for construction of structures with varying complexities for one to Ten stories buildings,. METRO-PANELS LGS systems integrate design software, manufacturing software and roll formers to produce accurate steel frame components for almost any type of such residential or commercial development. For most LGS construction, METRO-PANELS systems provides the following:

  1. Produces all framing components from your architectural designs with 100% accuracy.
  2. All profile components can be easily assembled by unskilled labor force.
  3. Fully automated design to production system.
  4. Fast, consistent and high-quality output from on site trailer contained factory.
  5. Totally non combustible materials can be used for the entire construction.
  6. Green Building certification and Environment compliance can be easily achieved
  7. 40% faster, Up to 20% less cost, and 100% better quality than other building construction solutions.

A few specific advantages of LGS Systems are as follows:

  1. LGS has a high 'strength-to-weight ratio' (Individual members are lighter per unit length than traditional steel or concrete framing members).
  2. It is 100% recyclable and can be recycled again and again without losing its physical properties
  3. It is inorganic so will Not rot, warp, split or crack.
  4. Steel is inert and does not emit fumes, gases, vapour or support the growth of moulds & fungi (which can potentially caused some health problems).
  5. It is dimensionally stable - it does not expand or contract with moisture content.
  6. Because it is produced in strict accordance with national standards, there is no variation in quality from region to region throughout the world.
  7. Steel is a non-combustible material and does not contribute fuel to a fire, or be susceptible to fire.
  8. LGS buildings using latest Technology' are engineered structures that can be designed to meet any degree of loading such as high seismic or high wind loads.
  9. LGS construction is lightweight, which makes construction easier and the use of heavy equipment is minimized.
  10. It allows for better quality of construction, with straight walls and square corners, which minimize defects.
  11. LGS components can be supplied to exact lengths and sizes, thus eliminating jobsite cutting and trimming thus minimize wastage and scrap.
  12. Quality control of LGS building is much easier as it is a 'dry' construction process.
  13. The buildings are resistant to termites or any type of organisms thus provide a healthier environment.
  14. The lightweight of the structures reduces the cost of foundation.
  15. LGS Systems offer a strong, safe structure with low maintenance and a slow aging process.
  16. LGS Systems buildings are more energy efficient and have much better thermal resistance properties than buildings built with conventional materials.

What is Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (PEBs)?

METRO-PANELS having worked on several Pre-Engineered Building Projects in USA, we can provide complete building packages that are manufactured in our plant or vendor's workshops – off site including all exterior and interior wall panels with all finishes and utilities installed – delivered on a truck – and assembled at the project site in a matter of days. This is truly a fast track, low cost – stronger building component system method that results in to a finer quality building due to the controlled environment of the plant where the building is manufactured.

What is a Composite Building Construction System?

METRO-PANELS' Composite Building Construction System uses a variety of innovative construction methods to (a) streamline construction time-line (b) Improve quality and delivery methods (c) manage or maintain costs and where possible attain cost savings. These requirements are achieved by using either a Steel framed or RCC framed building with panelized infill exterior walls and interior LGS walls such that overall load of structure is reduced and thus also the foundation cost is reduced. It is a well-accepted fact that steel is a superior construction material with the highest 'strength-to-weight ratio' of any building materials. Steel building components are stronger and lighter which results in a 'safer structure' (in a seismic situation) with less maintenance and a slower aging process. LGS Systems are proving to be cost effective due to the major reduction in construction time.
